Texas History on Tap

Beer Garden Fundraiser | 1:00-7:00 pm

For over 175 years, local Texans have supported the brewing industry and the people who made the craft possible. Heinrich Kreische's Bluff beer was one that was celebrated and enjoyed for miles around La Grange, making it the third largest brewery in Texas at its height of production.

Today, craft brewers from around the state gather back on the Bluff to celebrate the rich beer history of Texas. Featuring over 15 of the oldest and newest breweries as well as some of the most awarded and accoladed in the state, Texas History on Tap has something for everyone to enjoy.

A Taste of Texas: Tutored Tasting Add-On

with beer writer Ruvani de Silva

Texas's rich beer history has strong links to 19th-century German immigration and the cultural and culinary traditions these new Americans brought with them. Brewers like Heinrich Kreische brought German brewing techniques and beer styles to Texas, offering thirsty German immigrants a taste of home and introducing other settlers to German beer culture.

German beer styles remain hugely popular in Texas to this day, and since brewers respond to their environment and its available ingredients, many of our German-style beers have distinctly Texan qualities.

This add-on gives you access to an exclusive, guided tasting of Texas-German craft beers featured in the Texas History on Tap beer garden. In this talk, Michael Jackson Beer Writer of the Year, Ruvani de Silva, will give attendees an introduction to Texas-German beer history and a tutored tasting of 4 local Texas-German craft beers, some of which have been brewed specifically for this event. Attendees will learn how tasting beer like a beer sommelier can improve the drinking experience by detecting the different aromas and flavors and the key style characteristics.
